Wuhaxibi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Wuhaxibi about 135 km to the east of the Erjina Banner, Inner Mongolia. It was named by Zheng Zhaochang and Zhu Hong in 1987.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestone. Lower part is composed of grey thin- and medium-bedded clayey limestones, intercalated with sandy limestone, yielding abundant brachiopods, with a thickness of 200 m. Upper part is composed of grey thick-bedded sandy limestone, intercalated with siliceous-banded limestone, yielding brachiopods, corals and bryozoan, with a thickness of about 80 m. There are not complete exposures of its top and base, with a total thickness of over 280 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unknown. Regional lexicon charts did not imply a Carboniferous in this region, but there is a full set of Early through mid-Upper Devonian (e.g., Xipingshan Fm of Frasnian-Famennian).
Upper contact
Unknown; next higher regional unit (on Lexicon chart) is Maihanhada Fm sandy limestone
Regional extent
Distributed in the Wuhaxibi area, extending in an EW-trend for about 1.5 km.

Fossils
Its Lower part yields essentially Brachiopods such as Eliva, Martinia, Notothyris, Dielasma, while its Upper part yields largely Spiriferella, Neospirifer cf. elegantus, Stenoscisma.

It is interpreted as shallow-sea facies carbonate deposits
